The Island of Treasures
We welcome you, and want to acquaint you with a wonderful place, named "The Island of Treasures", which is situated in Kiev on Desenka River. This is very special place - every summer a camp for street children is launched here. It holds from June till August. The main goal is to show children new way of life.
This year "The Island of Treasures" is 7 years of age. According to the Word of God the 7th year is the year of forgiveness, when all the debts are forgiven and all the slaves were set free. That's why we have received special blessings from God. To compare with previous years, this year we were provided with material support in abundance. The children could have tasty and manifold meals, and had some clothes. God answered our need we've been praying for three years. We got a parachute, so we could play new and more interesting games.
This year we had a very interesting team of workers at the camp: students, aspirant, musicians, painter and teachers.
There are a lot of different adventures had happened on the Island. At night hedgehogs came to our tents; rabbits lived together with us; our goat Jul'ka was pasturing and all this was watched by very wise dog Dormidont. Can you imagine the happiness and impression created by the animals in both children and adults? Children had a great pleasure going to camping trips. During those trips they were not only resting, but also learning how to make fire, how to cook, how to put up tents and work together as a team. The most entertaining thing for boys was fishing. And it didn't cause any problem, that all the fish was eaten by our neighbor-cat Barsik. Evening meetings around the fire have stamped in memory a lot of afterglows, and watching of different movies brought a light of civilization into lives of the islanders.
Usually in such conditions we make holidays almost every day. So, one time our youngest children made a performance about ugly duckling. And during that performance a phrase, which became a motto of this summer camp: "God has made me an eagle!" was made up. Why exactly that phrase? Because, from ugly ducklings, these children thought that they were, they turned into eagles, and eagles as well known are strong birds and they can win.
Wonderful recollections connected with farewell party, when children seen how God has answered their pray, and rain was stopped. Camp workers have made such a big fire that children were watching it holding their breath. And a real surprise for all of the children was an unexpected firework.
The opening of this summer became "The Golden Dormidont Prize". At the farewell party everybody could receive a reward and honorary title in different categories - "megaphone-man", "stellar star", "household awl" and so on.
The last summer we had a lot of guests visiting our camp. It was nice to see the Ukraine president's wife Katrina Chumachenko, the Minster of family, youth and sport's affaires - Yuri Pavlenko, famous Ukrainian singer - Ruslana and a lot of other indifferent people and our friends. Thanks to them we could visit museums free of charge and go to McDonald's.
During the summer there were 33 children at the camp. Two of them were sent to the Children's center in Vapnyarka city, one child was returned to the boarding school, five were directed back home. 13 of the children were accepted to the Father's House Center of Social Care for children, which became a new family for them, were they are covered with love and care.
