The Situation of the ChildrenMost residents of the Center arrive at Father's House after completing a summer at our camp for street children - The Island of Treasures. Some come by acceptance from partner agencies and ministries from Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine. Some children are recommended by school directors, local government agencies, police departments and even parents and families who find themselves in crisis conditions and need help caring for the child. Living ConditionsThe Center is located in the countryside just outside of Kyiv. The facility is the most beautiful and up to date building in the town and dominates the landscape. The facility of Father's House has been mentioned as the best children's center in Ukraine. On the first floor there is a nurse's office, reception, dining room and kitchen, modern shower and toilet facilities. There is also a play room for the younger children, which is full of different kinds of educational toys, classrooms of our primary school are comfortable, sunny, and have places for recreation, games and rest with appropriate furniture for young children. EducationAll the children accepted to Father's House are given a psychological and educational evaluation which determines their educational and emotional needs. A child who demonstrates maturity and growth commensurate with his age goes to a local primary school. For other children who, because of their circumstances, have not been in school for some time, a personal program of tutoring is developed and followed until the student attains a level which will enable him or her to reenter regular schooling. Two grades of primary instruction have been established at the Center. The curriculum is based on the standard curriculum and is age appropriate in subject matter and level. Our faculty has teacher-training education and continually works to further their professional abilities. RecreationEvery summer, kids from Father's House have the opportunity to enjoy rest and recreation in the Crimea and in winter they have the chance for a holiday in Carpathian Mountains. In the Center, there are different organized activities such as dance, singing and theatre. Children participate in these programs as they wish. ALSO: |
